Anyone that has known my Solveig over the past 26 years and has seen and been a part of our beautiful story knows what an incredible and phenomenal mother she IS – I say IS, because her immense and unconditional love as Mom to our two beautiful daughters will last eternally. Solveig’s influence, kindness, patience and nurturing will not only be with our daughters now, but will be with their children too when that time comes and will pass from from generation to generation ❤️ We love you and miss you every second of everyday – never forgotten, always remembered.

Solveig’s love for music of all era’s and styles was evident in her massive collection of CD’s and LP’s! One group that she loved including myself is STYX…but the song BABE by Styx was not one I personally listened to much. I was thinking of Solveig and distraught that my beautiful wife is not here…another of those many and ongoing difficult moments…then all of a sudden, and I mean this when I say, and believe or not, but RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT I felt her presence, I always do, but this time is was very strong, and then on cue the song BABE out of nowhere plays in my head perfectly – it wasn’t on the radio earlier as I hadn’t been listening to any radio play, in fact I hadn’t listened to any music over the past days or watched any shows…the lyrics (below youtube link) were NEVER so poignant until this moment at 2am…and then to boot, when I went to actually hear the song, I chose one version to use, but then was drawn, almost pulled to the one that is below…here the singer says about his wife that, “we’ve been married for 26 years”…that’s the exact same amount of time for me and Solveig – it struck me so strongly. In the picture (above), her hand is placed close to my guitar…she is in my heart eternally – I know Solveig is beside me..”I love you Solveig so much, thank you my love…I miss you, I love you….always”.
In the the intro the singer says it’s dedicated to his wife of 26 years…the same for me and Solveig…
BABE – STYX
Babe, I’m leaving, I must be on my way The time is drawing near My train is going, I see it in your eyes The love, the need, your tears But I’ll be lonely without you And I’ll need your love to see me through So please believe me, my heart is in your hands And I’ll be missing you.
You know it’s you Babe Whenever I get weary and I’ve had enough Feel like giving up You know it’s you Babe Giving me the courage and the strength I need Please believe that it’s true Babe, I love you.
You know it’s you Babe Whenever I get weary and I’ve had enough Feel like giving up You know it’s you Babe Giving me the courage and the strength I need Please believe that it’s true Babe, I love you.
Babe, I’m leaving, I’ll say it once again Somehow try to smile I know the feeling we’re trying to forget If only for a while But I’ll be lonely without you And I’ll need your love to see me through Please believe me, my heart is in your hands And I’ll be missing you Babe, I love you Babe, I love you Ohh Babe…

To be able to tell the story of our beautiful journey over the past 26 years I have to go back to 2 years before I actually met Solveig formally which was 1991. At the time, I was playing in a band called ‘Visions in the Sky’, we used to play a lot around Ottawa, the surrounding areas and beyond. We performed every single weekend for a number of years and had a great reputation and band following playing originals and covers and had tons of fun touring. On the odd occasion when we had a weekend off, I would hang out with the band and my other friends at the very same places we’d play to see the other acts as all my friends were in the club/bar industry.
On one of those ‘off weekends’ I was at a club in downtown Ottawa called ‘Grand Central’ which was very popular at the time with a group of friends, and another very close friend of mine mentioned he would drop by quickly before he had to go to work to say hello.
He arrived with this extremely attractive woman and she was wearing this bandana and looked very ‘rock n’ roll’, she was absolutely gorgeous, she was so cool and had this amazing presence and aura (which never changed in 26 years…ever) and I remember thinking ‘my God, she is so beautiful’, I was really captivated by her in the most respectful way (that never changed either) but I wasn’t sure if she was his girlfriend as he didn’t introduce us and frankly she didn’t pay us any attention, and didn’t look directly at me. I remember thinking too, that a woman like that was way out of my league….she wasn’t his girlfriend by the way…
As fate would have it, when I finally did meet Solveig in 1993, she brought up that very meeting at Grand Central, and that I didn’t pay HER any attention, and how she couldn’t look directly at me as she was very attracted and that ‘how could I be interested in her?’…we both thought the same thing…but destiny has a way of bringing people together, so in 1993 we officially met at the ‘Visions in the Sky’ CD release party at ‘the Topaz’!
